Softball Captures 2nd in Region
Miami, Okla. (Wednesday, May 13, 2009) -- Golden Norse Baseball and Lady Norse Softball both ended their season by bringing home a second place trophy from the Region II Tournament.
The Lady Norse completed their season with a 53-6 record, winning the conference championship for a third consecutive year, said Eric Iverson, coach. The team finished sixth in the final National Junior College Athletic Association poll.
The Lady Norse lost to Seminole during the regional championship game at Oklahoma City University on May 7.
“In was a great season,” said Iverson. “Winning the conference championship is always a challenge. That is done over 28 games, whereas the Regional championship is done over one weekend. The conference championship is a better reflection of your whole body of work.”
Iverson said NEO softball fans can look forward to an exceptional team next year. Eleven players will return, including pitchers Kalleigh Chrz, a resident of Welch, and Maria Buckingham of Saskatchewan, Canada. Iverson said two of the his best offensive players, Kiara Bonner, a resident of Brazoria, Texas, and Maddelyn Fraley of Adair, will also be back for the 2009-10 season.
Chrz was 23 and 2 as a pitcher with a .88 ERA, Iverson said. Buckingham was 12 and 2 with a 1.54 ERA. Fraley had 17 home runs, 81 hits, 62 RBIs and broke a record with 23 doubles. Bonner broke five school records with 23 home runs, 92 hits, nine triples, 81 runs and 72 RBIs, Iverson said. |
